Clothing was in former times the most direct expression of one’s status symbol. The 18th century incredibly elaborate, silken, embroidered waistcoats were indicators of wealth and upper class. The 19th century brightly-coloured uniforms identified Tyrolean nobility and the Habsburg ruling house officials. Women’s status in society was also distinguished by an elegant, expensive wardrobe, by silk dresses and matching costly jewels.
This interesting exhibition, organized by the South Tyrolean Museum of Hunting and Fishing in Ratschings, provides a large number of uniforms, female clothing, as well as fashion accessories, which are part of the original Wolfsthurn castle collection.
